A family trip through 5 Caribbean islands. I brought my glidecam2000hd and Canon 5D mii. 16-35mm lens and canon 70-200mm f/4 IS. I loved all of the beautiful…

You might think to yourself when looking to book a relaxing luxury holiday how a resort in Antigua might differ from other luxury Caribbean islands. If a luxury break of a relaxing nature that allows you to laze in the sun and sample local delicacies and cocktails and take in the serene surroundings takes your fancy, then Antigua is certainly an island for you.  The all-inclusive resorts offer 5* luxury accommodation with excellent staff that are on hand to make your holiday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. That coupled with the fact that the helpful staff are on hand to offer advice and tips on the best Antiguan cuisine such as Fungi which is mashed vegetables with salted cod and native drinks such as English Harbour Rum which must be sampled. Many of the distilleries still remain on the island to produce the rum, so you can even take a visit to one of those to see how it is actually produced.

An Antigua resort boasts all the qualities of any luxury island holiday, with golden sands and crystal clear waters and hot tropical sunshine. Antigua is a part of the Leeward Islands which are located in the east of the Caribbean. The name Antigua descends from Spanish and supposedly means ancient. The island was understood to have been named by Christopher Columbus and it is a highly popular tourist destination because of its visually pleasing and magnificently stunning qualities coupled with the historical aspects of its native cultures and the British naval presence in the late 18th century.

If you are more of an energetic character and your interest steers toward leisure activities then you still have the option to be active at an Antigua resort. The coasts of Antigua are perfect for yacht cruising and racing and are very popular with professionals, with continuous trade-winds, and there are many harbours around Antigua which you can explore. If you are interested in this kind of activity you should time your stay at an Antigua resort with the Super Yacht Cup which is yacht racing mixed with lots of social events, which can make your stay in Antigua truly unique. Any 5* resort in Antigua will endeavour to provide as much information regarding events on the island so you can plan days out then come back to a fantastic meal and tuck into to the famed English Harbour and Cavalier Rums.

Hermitage Bay is a luxury Antigua Resort situated on the west coast of the island, and offers secluded, luxurious accommodation and facilities. Tucked into a beautiful bay in one of the most secluded corners of Antigua, it is perfect for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

The Caribbean would have to be one of the best honeymoon destinations in the world. Out of all the different places which make up the Caribbean you will be able to have whatever kind of honeymoon you desire.

Whether it is spending all day relaxing on the beach, playing golf, extreme water sports or just an isolated getaway where you are the only two people in sight. The Caribbean has something for everyone.

I’ve come up with the top six places to honeymoon in the Caribbean.

Cancun

On Mexico’s Eastern coastline Cancun is thought of by many as the premier honeymoon destination, simply because it has it all. You can swim all day at one of the many beaches, play golf in some of the best golf courses, shop to your heart’s content and then live it up at night in one of the numerous nightclubs.

Puerto Rico

With 435km of pristine coastline, Puerto Rico is a dream honeymoon location. Quieter than Cancun, you can still enjoy all the water sports you can think of as well as visiting the only rainforest which is part of the United States National Forest Service.

Punta Cana

On the eastern side of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana has beaches lined with coconut trees giving it the nickname the Coconut Coast. If you’re looking for a laid back relaxing beach honeymoon, this is the place for you.

Antigua

With nearly 400 beaches, Antigua is definitely a place for the sun loving water babies. The beaches are mostly protected from the wind from the island itself, so you can enjoy swimming in the crystal clear waters and sunbathing in the eggshell white sand all day long.

The Bahamas

With roughly 700 different islands varying in sizes The Bahamas make a very versatile honeymoon destination. The biggest island is Grand Bahama Island which has several all inclusive resorts or you can stay on one of the many other islands including Nassau or Paradise Island. The best thing about the Bahamas is the fact it’s so easy to travel to from anywhere in the US.

Jamaica

Probably one of the most affordable islands in the Caribbean; Jamaica is widely known for Reggae, rum and jerk chicken. But there is so much more to this beautiful island. In size Jamaica is the third biggest in the Caribbean and they speak English so you don’t have to worry about translation issues. With a climate that is perfect year round Jamaica has it all.

Caribbean honeymoons are a great option, but there are many other places to choose from. Check out my other articles on various locations which I think would be perfect for honeymoon destinations.

The Bahamas officially the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, is a nation consisting of 29 islands, 661 cays, and 2,387 islets (rocks). It is located in the Atlantic Ocean north of Cuba and Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti), northwest of the Turks and Caicos Islands, and southeast of the United States (nearest to the state of Florida).

The island of New Providence is home to Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. New Providence houses 70% of the country’s residents and is the center of economic and government activity. Although much business happens on New Providence, it isn’t all hard work and no play. Nassau is home to many resorts, including several luxury all-inclusive accommodations. One of the most popular resorts, however, isn’t a mega hotel. Compass Point Beach Resort is easy to spot, just look for the rows of beachfront “huts” painted in bright colors. It is described as a resort done “Bahamas style,” Compass Point is a great choice for those looking for an authentic Bahamas vacation without the glitz and glam of a traditional resort. The comfortable rooms will make your Bahamas vacation feel more like staying in a well-appointed guest room at a friend’s beach house than a resort room.

Paradise Island is linked to New Providence Island by a bridge. Worth at least a few hours, if not your entire stay, the world-famous Atlantis Resort is located on Paradise Island. This mega resort has some of the most expensive rooms in the world and is a lot like a miniature beach-front Las Vegas in the middle of the Caribbean. The Atlantis has grandiose architecture, faux Mayan ruins, huge aquariums full of thousands of species of sea life, and the largest casino in the entire Caribbean, with 50,000 square feet of lavish decor and nearly 1,000 slot machines. Spas, nightclubs, and restaurants are on par with anything you could find in a Vegas hotspot. A guided tour of the mega resort is available and may be worth your while if you’re just visiting rather than staying on the property.

The smaller and fewer populous islands in the Bahamas are collectively known as the “Out Islands.” These islands have a lot of personality and great attractions, and are well worth at least a day trip on your Bahamas vacation. The Exuma island chain is about 120 miles southeast of Nassau. Comprised of Great Exuma, Little Exuma, and the Exuma Cays, the beaches and waters are extremely pristine and have been set aside by the government as a national park. Great Exuma has comparatively fewer resorts than some of the main islands given its small size, but all are highly rated. St. Francis Resort, for example, sits on a bright white-sand beach and offers a laid-back home away from home. Rooms are a second away from the beach, where lizards and crabs take advantage of the island’s largely unpopulated coastlines. Because the Exuma Islands are so isolated, diving sites are especially pristine. Mystery Cave is a particularly popular destination, especially for experienced divers. Visited by famous explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, it is a “blue hole,” or underwater sinkhole. While visiting the Great Exuma, stop for dinner at Santanna’s Grill Pit featuring fresh, locally caught lobster and conch.
